Convincing businesses to join the fight

Many companies lose thousands of dollars each year when just one employee contracts HIV and begins falling sick.  Realizing this, over 50 businesses in Uganda have joined an innovative project to fight AIDS around the country.  Dr. Peter Cowley, Chief of Party in the Business PART Project describes how his organization convinced 8 of these partner companies to pay for testing services for 5000 employees and community members, train 100 clinicians and distribute to over 150 people free ARVs provided  with Global Fund and USAID support.

" We explain to the company how much they would lose financially due to an HIV infected employee: it will cost the company US $3000 -$4000 due to funeral costs, lost productivity, retraining, supervision, increased medical care cost and absenteeism..."
